Top Trends in Plastic Surgery for 2022

A new survey by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) has revealed some of the top trends in plastic surgery for 2022. After surveying member surgeons, the AAFPS has revealed what many surgeons across the United States are noticing in their clinics - and it may surprise you.

Younger Patients

Thanks at least in some part to social media influencers, many plastic surgeons are noticing that younger and younger patients are coming in for plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures. This has led to many conversations about what is "too young" and what is realistic when it comes to plastic surgery outcomes. If you are a teen or young adult seeking a surgical procedure, speak to Dr. Mitchell about your motivation. We want to make sure you are interested for the right reasons.

Social Media, Contd.

While social media undeniably influences younger would-be patients it is also influencing older patients as well. That has led to a boom for both older and younger adults.

Surgery Follows COVID-19 Spikes

Many surgeons have noticed that when COVID-19 spikes, such as during the omicron spike, so too do requests for surgery. This is because many people are being sent to work from home again, and have the time to recuperate without needing to take sick time or vacation from work. They can also heal privately, so nobody needs to know they've had work done.

Preventative Maintenance

Many patients in 2022 will opt for preventative care as opposed to correcting an existing issue, heading off any signs of aging before they occur. This is especially true thanks to web-based meetings causing people to closely scrutinize their appearances online.

The Real Deal

Furthermore, many patients are done with the quick fix procedures of the past, opting instead to get more permanent procedures like a real rhinoplasty instead of a liquid rhinoplasty, or lip implants instead of dermal fillers. Patients no longer see the value in procedures they have to re-do or maintain for extra time and cost.

Ultimately, trends come and go, but quality surgery can last a lifetime. If you are interested in quality surgery of your own, schedule a consultation with Dr. Mitchell today.
