In my writings, I will commonly refer to the 3 D’s of facial aging.  When considering the aging process, it helps to understand that facial aging involves three components: Deterioration of skin, Deflation of facial volume, and Descending facial tissues.  In the course of restorative facial rejuvenation, each chosen treatment will target one of the 3 D’s for repair.

The Dermapen is a treatment for the Deterioration of the facial skin.  It works by utilizing an innovative, efficacious and cost-effective device called Dermapen. The cumulative effects of sun exposure, genetics and lifestyle factors cause the deterioration of skin.  Deteriorating skin manifests in fine lines, wrinkles, mottled pigmentation, large pores and dullness.

Dermapen is a device and treatment that helps to restore the skin to a healthier appearance.  Dermapen is a vertically automated, fractionated, micro-needling device that treats fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks and scars by delivery of 11 closely grouped micro-needles, causing micro-injuries into the epidermis and dermis.  These micro-injuries to the skin encourage and harness the power of the body’s innate ability to regrow and repair the skin through normal physiological mechanisms.  Deposition of new collagen and elastin occurs through a cascade of events involving the release of growth factors.   Tissue remodeling occurs where the skins vascular matrix matures and skin tightening as well as new collagen can be seen.   The body’s ability to remodel and heal itself is at the heart of this amazing process.  The process is similar to treatments using ablative lasers where the laser beam penetrates the skin causing a “wound” and then allowing the body’s same healing process to remodel the skin with new collagen and elastin remodeling.

With proper use, Dermapen can be as effective as chemical peels or fractionated ablative lasers at treating the deterioration of facial skin.  In addition, unlike ablative lasers, Dermapen can be used on all skin types including black skin.  The treatment is performed in an office-based setting.  The treatment for an entire face takes approximately 60 minutes.   On clean skin we apply an effective topical anesthetic cream.  We begin the treatment with a biohydra infused serum that helps hydrate the skin as the Dermapen gently glides over your skin.  Following the Dermapen portion of the treatment, a case specific serum is used to address individual skin maladies. The Entire process well tolerated and it is not painful.   There is a one-day down time.  You can expect your skin to be pink for about 24 hours.  During that time we ask that no make-up be worn.

Typically, 4-6 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart are necessary for optimal results.
