CDC Reveals Startling Number of Plastic Surgery Casualties In The Dominican Republic

cThere's some startling news from the CDC regarding the safety of plastic surgery in the Dominican Republic. According to a recent report, the CDC found that 93 Americans have died from plastic surgery complications in the Dominican Republic between the years of 2009 to 2022. Worse yet, more than half of those deaths occurred after 2018.

According to the report, the deaths occurred following liposuction procedures, and a staggering 92 percent of these surgeries included gluteal fat transfer, also known as the "Brazilian butt lift." The deaths were said to be caused by embolisms from fat deposits or blood clots, and many of the procedures were done in conjunction with other procedures, something that the CDC warns against when undergoing a Brazilian butt lift. The median age of the victims was 40 years old, and all but one patient were women.

Each year, people from the United States and around the world travel the globe seeking "bargain" plastic surgery from foreign doctors. Despite the warnings of agencies like the CDC, patients seek out what they perceive to be "good deals" on plastic surgery in foreign countries. Unfortunately in many cases, you get what you pay for. Often, foreign countries lack the same cleanliness and safety standards at their plastic surgery clinics, and in many cases doctors have been found to be underqualified or unlicensed, practicing in their homes or hotel rooms!

While lower prices on costly procedures may seem like a financially sound decision, the risks simply aren't worth the reward. Even surgeons who have portfolios of 'before and after' photos of their patients aren't always legitimate. Photos can be stolen or doctored, and in many places there is no regulation for this type of behavior.

If you are interested in undergoing a plastic surgery procedure, your best bet is to grow your savings for a bit longer, rather than chase after a so-called deal that could cost you your life. While not all foreign plastic surgery is dangerous, the safety and board certification standards here in the United States are unparalleled. You may think you're getting the deal of a lifetime going abroad, but is it really worth risking your life to save a few bucks?
