You’ll ‘Flip’ For These Lip Plumping Options!

Don’t gimme no lip! Or do, if you want to! Our lips are the frame to our beautiful smiles, and our smiles are one of our most valuable assets! A healthy smile can convey youthfulness, friendliness, and even confidence. No wonder they’re so important! But if you’re not happy with the appearance of your lips, it can give you a lot less to smile about. Thankfully, there are surgical and non-surgical solutions to address lip issues, but how do you decide what you need?

Some of us are born blessed with plump, juicy lips, while others are simply not satisfied with their lip size or volume. Even those with a perfect pout can eventually experience loss of volume or fine lines on their lips. Enter cosmetic injections. For years, patients have been enjoying the results of products like hyaluronic acid to fill out their lips, creating a sexy, full-volume lip look that’s even better than what nature gave you. But now, a new trend called a ‘lip flip’ is gaining popularity, and it’s raising a lot of questions. So, how do you know what’s best for your lips? Are you due for a lip flip, or are you better off with traditional fillers? Keep reading to learn more!

Lip Flip

The lip flip trend has taken off on social media, with many influencers touting their freshly-flipped pouts as examples. Lip flips are different than traditional lip fillers, because they don’t actually fill the lips or plump them, per se. The lip flip actually uses Botox instead of fillers to create a fuller looking upper lip – but it’s best used if you’re already satisfied with your resting lip appearance and maybe aren’t a fan of how your upper lip disappears when you smile, for example.

Because they use Botox, lip flip procedures generally last about three to six months, which is great news if you aren’t sure you love the look or want to try something new next time.

Lip Fillers

If you aren’t satisfied with the overall look of your lips, whether you feel they are too thin or if you notice they have fine lines or wrinkles appearing on the lips themselves, you may want to consider traditional hyaluronic acid fillers. Lip fillers are more permanent than using Botox for a lip flip. In fact, hyaluronic acid fillers tend to last about a year, as because hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring compound, it will eventually dissolve into your body and require a refresh if you desire one.

Lip Implants

Finally, the most permanent form of lip augmentation is surgical lip implants that will never need to be refreshed or replaced. These surgical options are a bit more expensive and the downtime is a bit longer than injections, but the results are permanent and well-tolerated and most people love the final results!
